Syntho-Glass® is a patented, fiberglass cloth pre-impregnated with a resin that can be activated by salt or fresh water. Packaged in a hermetically sealed foil pouch, its ready to use and does not require any measuring or mixing. This system enables you to repair almost any size diameter pipe in minutes, while saving you thousands in labor, parts, and reducing downtime. With an initial setting time of only 30 minutes (75°F - 23,5°C) it is an excellent solution for reducing downtime. Offering excellent adhesion to STEEL, SS, PVC, FRP, CLAY, CONCRETE, RUBBER, etc, it is amazingly versatile. Syntho-Glass® is safe to use, non-toxic, non-combustible and odorless. The repair can not only restore a pipe to its original PSI rating, but can actually make the repair area stronger than the original pipe. Syntho-Glass® is available in several widths and lengths as well as in pre- packaged repair kits for small diameter pipe.

Pressure Resistance

The number of fiberglass cloth layers is dictated by the type of repair to be made as well as the application variables. As a "rule of thumb", a minimum of 4 layers is recommended for corrosion protection applications. For leak repairs with operating pressures up to 300 psi on small diameter pipes (< 4" diameter) 8 layers of Syntho-GlassŽ is recommended over the primary sealer. For pipe containment and reinforcement, the number of layers required is dictated by the pipe diameter, pipe specifications, percent of wall loss and the operating or design pressure rating of the original pipe. For example, a 6" diameter API 5LX-52 test probe, with a ground out anomaly to simulate a 50% wall loss, was coated with an epoxy sealer and over-wrapped with 26 layers of Syntho-Glass®. At 7,500 psi, the testing equipment began to fail, not the Syntho-Glass® repair sleeve. For repairs on pipelines, the repair method and the amount of material used for the repair will vary according to the specifications of the repair itself.

Syntho-Glass® is the latest development and technological advancement in the use of composites for remedial repairs to defects and anomalies in pipelines. De-pressurizing and shutdowns are very costly and are not the most desirable method of repairing pipelines. Pipelines that are in jeopardy of a catastrophic failure due to wall thickness erosion, from external and/or internal corrosion, are especially suited for external pipeline reinforcement and containment, using a fiberglass cloth & resin composite, such as Syntho-Glass®. Syntho-Glass® is a patented, fiberglass cloth impregnated with a resin that is activated by salt or fresh water. Packaged in a hermetically sealed foil pouch, it is ready to use and does not require any measuring or mixing. This fiberglass cloth tape can be applied underwater, in arid, humid or dry conditions, including tropical climates. The initial cure (setting) time of Syntho-Glass® is 30- 60 minutes with a complete cure in less than 24 hours @ 70°F (21°C). This innovative fiberglass cloth / resin composite, once cured, is resistant to petroleum products, has very good chemical resistance and resists both high and low temperature extremes. Syntho-Glass® is safe to use, non-toxic, non-combustible and odorless. Syntho-Glass exhibits good adhesion to most surfaces including; steel, iron, pvc, frp and most metals and plastics. Once cured can also be sanded and painted.
